International School/Workshop “Early sensory-motor integration: from the cellular to the systems level”

“Early sensory-motor integration: from the cellular to the systems level”

September 3-7, 2012

Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable and Faculty of Sciences, Montevideo; Uruguay

ISN / PEDECIBA / AMSUD-Pasteur

The course is aimed at teaching graduate students from Latin American countries the mechanisms involved during early stages of sensory-motor integration in the nervous system. The course will include a strong component of cellular and molecular neuroscience, addressing topics ranging from the development of circuits devoted to sensory-motor integration to the intrinsic electrophysiological properties of spinal neurons and their regulation by activity and neurotransmitters. The cellular level of integration will be combined with the dynamics arising from the network level of integration. Finally, the students will be provided with a view of the subject from the system level of integration. The knowledge given by experts in the field during lectures will be complemented by lab seminars in which students will get familiar with the technical approaches (ranging from patch-clamp to psychophysics) used to study sensory-motor integration. The course is intended for 15 students: 10 from Latin American countries (excluding Uruguay) and 5 from Uruguay.
