PhD position in Structural Neurobiology

Workplace: Experimental Morphology, Institute of Anatomy, Medical Faculty, University of Bern

Project Title: Structural study of neurotransmitter release

Description: The group of Dr Benoît Zuber studies the three-dimensional structure of synapses by cryo-electron microscopy and tomography. The mechanism by which neurotransmitters are released from the synapse is still not well understood at the molecular level. The successful candidate will tackle this problem with an original approach: he or she will describe the structure of the exocytotic machinery in the various states leading to neurotransmitter release.

Requirements: The successful candidate will hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in life science or physics, have good communication skills and be highly motivated to work on a challenging project. Experience in electron microscopy or in molecular biology is an advantage but is not necessary. The successful candidate will be integrated in the PhD program of the Graduate School of Cellular and Biomedical Sciences, University of Bern.

PLEASE NOTE: unfortunately, because of funding limitations, it is impossible for us to invite promising applicants residing outside Europe for an interview.

Start: Upon mutual agreement

Application: Applications, including a letter of motivation, a CV, a list of publications and references should be sent by email to Dr. Benoit Zuber
