NEUROBIOLOGICAL BASIS OF DRUG ADDICTION

Associated to the V NEUROTOXICITY SOCIETY MEETING

Location: Gran Hotel Uspallata and Gran Hostel Uspallata. Uspallata, Mendoza, Argentina

Dates: April 6-10, 2011

The main aim of the graduate school is to contribute to the knowledge of the neurobiological mechanisms of drug addiction. Experimental models in laboratory animals for the different aspects of drug addiction: abstinence, sensitization, reinstatement, tolerance and compulsion, will be covered. It will include generalizations of shared processes and the individual characteristics for opioids, benzodiazepines, psychostimulants, cannabinoids, nicotine and alcohol. The newest molecular advances and the different neural mechanisms in the context of the several theories of addiction will be discussed. The school is orientated to students enrolled in Doctoral and Master Programs, as well as to young investigators in the Neuroscience areas, holding a Biochemistry, Medical, Biologist, Psychology, Pharmacy or Chemical Sciences degree.

The course will be divided in three modules:

I – Theoretical classes with papers discussions (April 6-7)
